LDI Camera—Camera that uses a property of light, where some modes have invariant dispersion, to observe the interior of normally opaque objects. LDI is the acronym for the Portuguese ‘Luz de Dispersão Invariante’ (Invariant Dispersion Light). By manipulating these invariant modes in the right way, it is possible to see the inside of practically anything as if it were exposed to ordinary light. See article in Nature Magazine.
Mediumcosm—Intermediate space between the macrocosm, where relativistic effects are pronounced, and the microcosm, where quantum effects dominate. In the mediumcosm, neither quantum nor relativistic effects are relevant.
Metamorphic Code—Programming language whose code is contained in its own variables and, therefore, can change its own commands.
N1, N2, N3, N4, N5—Are levels that people can reach in the Ybymarã economy, which does not work with money. Each level increases the equivalent of ‘purchasing power’ in cash savings. The model is called PANC, from the Portuguese ‘Ponto-Avaliação-Nível-Cota’ (Point-Evaluation-Level-Quota) where people can move up in level as they earn points for work or other activities. The quota limits the number of items of a certain type that a citizen can purchase. It is also known as Qualitivism, in contrast to economies that use money, which are called Monetarists.
Negentropic Force—Is a force that has no direct connection with the fundamental forces of nature (electromagnetic, gravitational, etc.). It only acts in the so-called ‘mediumcosm,’ where neither quantum nor relativistic effects are so pronounced. It works as a kind of organizer of the environment and is directly linked to living beings and their consciousness.
Neurotronic Brain—Artificial brain made up of neurotrons, which are digital processors of metamorphic code. There are usually 64 billion neurotrons in a common brain, which can communicate in groups with any other groups through a digital bus. If it is 8 bits, for example, it can simulate up to 256 analog levels.

P-branes—Objects extended from superstring theory, which are like small vibrating filaments of energy that constitute the basis of all reality. A superstring has only length, like a vibrating guitar string, where p=1 (1-brane). A two-dimensional brane can be understood by observing a flag fluttering in the wind (2-brane), and we can make an analogy of a three-dimensional brane with a waving block of gelatin (3-brane). Branes have no internal structure, being just variations in the density of the void. M-theory tells us that branes vibrate up to dimension 11.
Pentachromat—Referring to vision with five primary colors. Many fish are pentachromats. The natives of the Third Transgenic can perceive wavelengths of 370 nm (ultraviolet), 445 nm (blue), 495 nm (turquoise), 545 nm (green), and 575 nm (red), which allows them to distinguish up to 10 billion shades of colors.

PSI496—Highly advanced android, with behavior indistinguishable from humans. They are believed to think and feel like living people. Due to an Accord, they gained all the rights of human beings but had to give up their human voice and appearance.
Quantum Phase Reactor—Reactor that takes advantage of the inverting properties of Alice’s Rings to convert matter into antimatter, extracting the resulting energy when the antimatter reacts with surrounding matter. To do this, it has a ‘monopolar magnetic cannon,’ which shoots the rings into a block of matter.

RRT—Acronym for the Portuguese ‘Rádio-Relógio-Telefone’ (Radio-Clock-Telephone). An RRT has the same functions as a cell phone but evolved from the wristwatch, to which a radio was added and, soon after, a mobile phone. It is usually worn in the form of a wide bracelet on one of the forearms, but it can also be ‘unrolled’ to take a flat shape.
Sphere—Virtual reality simulator that occupies the upper floor of the Ybymarã library. It is much more sophisticated than the simulators at Guajupiá Park, where visitors can literally experience the history of the planet or research any topic.
STC—Acronym for the Portuguese ‘Substituição Total de Corpo’ (Total Body Replacement). It is a procedure in which a new body is grown from a donor, where DNA is re-engineered so that it is stronger, longer-lived, and has more acute senses. This new body is brainless, and the donor’s brain is transplanted into it at the end of the procedure.
Tetrachromat—Referring to vision with four primary colors. There are few natural cases of tetrachromats people, but many birds are naturally tetrachromats. The natives of the Second Transgenic are tetrachromats, whose cones have peaks at wavelengths of 445 nm (blue), 495 nm (turquoise), 545 nm (green), and 575 nm (red), making it possible to distinguish up to 100 million shades of colors in the same visible spectrum as trichromats.
Tetraelectronic Matter—Matter where electrons are replaced by tetrons, which have an electrical charge equivalent to 4. It is about 16 times more resistant than its monoelectronic counterpart, with a melting and boiling temperature about 4 times higher. It can become unstable at very high pressures and temperatures, since tetrons carry strong force and can react with the nucleus if they come too close. A stable tetra-atom can contain up to 21 tetrons, which reflect in 82 protons in the nuclei. Up to this, the atoms became radioactive. See also: tetron.
Tetron—Set of four electrinos held together by the action of strong force in the presence of nucleotrinos. It has a mass similar to that of an individual electron and can form chemical bonds in the same way as common atoms.
Transgenics—These are milestones in the genetic manipulation of human beings. The First Transgenic refers only to corrections in DNA, so people with this transgenic rarely get sick and have a perfect body and metabolism, being able to live up to around 150 years. Second Transgenic brought improvements, such as greater physical strength, more accurate hearing, and tetrachromatic vision. People with this Transgenic can live up to 300 years. And the Third Transgenic, currently in Ybymarã, brought pentachromatic vision, thermal papillae for orientation through heat, magnetic guides that function as compasses, and echolocation capacity, in addition to increases in physical strength and life expectancy of up to 400 years.
Travelers—Are the people who were transported to Ybymarã in the incident that became known as the ‘bubble event’ or simply ‘The Bubble.’
Trichromat—Referring to vision with three primary colors. We are naturally trichromats, seeing the colors red (peaking at 575 nm), green (535 nm), and blue (445 nm), making it possible to distinguish up to 1 million color tones.
Uiraitás—Large robotic birds that sit on the edge around Ybytyara. They serve as guardians to catch people and objects that may fall from the island and bring them back. They also serve as lifeboats. Their name comes from the fact that they are camouflaged as stone birds when they are perched.
Ybymarian—Person who lives in Ybymarã.
Ysajá—Apparatus built entirely with programmable matter, whose argibots are made of tetraelectronic matter. Ysajá does not have a predetermined shape but is generally cylindrical, and the tetraelectronic matter makes it much more resistant than titanium. See Appendix II.
